Yumi Nu 2023: Dominica
Yumi Nu was photographed by Amanda Pratt in Dominica for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue along with fellow models Leyna Bloom, Christen Harper and Olivia Ponton.
In May 2022, the model-musician released her second EP, Hajime, the same week that she landed on the cover of the SI Swimsuit Issue, one year after her debut with the magazine. Nu, who is of Japanese and Dutch descent, began singing lessons at age 12.
The New Jersey native made history in April 2022 as the first plus-size model featured on the cover of Vogue Japan. Today she is an emerging fashion entrepreneur with her plus-size clothing brand Blueki. She launched the company in October 2022 after struggling to find ethically sourced, high-quality and timeless clothing in her size.
Known for its natural beauty, the island of Dominica is located in the eastern Caribbean between Guadeloupe and Martinique. From lush rainforests and impressive mountain peaks to rushing rivers and cascading waterfalls, Dominica boasts magnificent, natural views, making it an ideal vacation location for relaxation and adventure (and, not to mention, an SI Swimsuit photo shoot).

The styling for Nu’s shoot was inspired by current glam, glitz and futuristic fashion trends appearing on the runways and in the market right now. The SI Swimsuit team merged nature's earthy tones with sparkly extraterrestrial inspired hues to create a playful eclectic energy. Think astronaut suits meet metallic disco attire.
